Kaidi as an Egyptian doll and what else happened in Damanhur

This week my company travelled to Damanhur to open the 3rd Damanhur International Folkloric Festival. We had an awesome 1-hour long modern Egyptian show. But before the people even made it to the opera hall they had to walk through an interactive egyptian garden, where they were greeted by open air pupper theatre, shadow show, dancing horse (not a real one), lots of Egytian attractions and characters, loud folkloric music and lights and smoke. A real carnival!

In the show I made one significant solo, I danced the part of an Egyptian doll, called the "arust el mouled" (the bride of mouled). Its a traditional plastic doll always present in Mouled* activities. They are extravagant dolls that look like brides, wear fluffy skirts with ruffles. At the same time with my dance there was a twirling tanoura dancer flying around the stage. The whole scene was surreal, like an oriental fairytale, a dreamy scene in a music box. Below are photos of what the doll actually looks like and my look on stage and at the bottom of the post you can watch the video!
*Moled is a religious celebration in Egypt to mark the birthday of a muslim saint or prophet Mohemed.

After the show finished we were invited to the VIP room where we met some famous faces: the current Egyptian culture minister, governer of Alexandria (who is considered the new most hot and handsome politician, you can judge for your self) and our beloved director of Cairo Opera House.

With Dr. Ines Abdel Deim, director of Cairo Opera House.
Sorry for the blurry photo.

And here is the promised video of Kaidi as an Egyptian doll
