Happy birthday Estonia!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ESTONIA!

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania had decided to celebrate together. The event took place in Cairo, Zamalek 5-stars Marriot hotel from 7 -9 PM. We arrived 5 minutes early and were greeted on the ballroom door by all 3 ambassadors, totally reminded me of the traditional President's VIP-reception with red carpet in Estonia, the social event of the year.

So now the funny thing! 700 were invited, about half came. Some Latvians and some Lithuanians, lots of Egyptians (partners and colleagues for the embassies), more foreigners and diplomatic quests and last but not least 8(!) Estonians.

The night started with all three ambassadors giving speeches. The one who most touched our hearts was the Latvian ambassador, because she compared the Baltic struggle for freedom in 1991 to the current Egyptian's struggles for a better future.

Then it was time to mingle and eat. An awesome 5-star dinner buffet ;) Throughout the night there were
waiters moving around the room offering Baltic traditional snacks. I had an Estonian sprout sandwich, Lithuanian cheese and the best of all of them - Latvian cranberries in sugar!

Unfortunately for me there was no music or dancing, but it was great to be part of a glamorous evening and celebrate our independence day together, all 8 of us!
